Ronda, Spain Web Site is Now Up! Check it Out!

by admin | June 14th, 2008

For the last few days I’ve been having some hard drive problems with one of my computers and haven’t been able to post as frequently as I would like. However, I did have time to finish the second in a series of descriptions of some of my favorite places I have visited. The first was Suzhou, China; mentioned in the last post.

The second web site in the series is the third most visited town in the Southern region of Spain, Andalusia. Ronda has a history that predates the Roman Conquest period, and has been ruled by the Romans, the Moors, the Christians, and has been fought over for centuries.

Ronda is perched atop a mountain top plateau with the Tajo Gorge guarding the entryway to the city. It is over a 300 foot drop to the bottom of the gorge where the Guadalevin river flows. One of the most spectacular architectural bridges in Spain spans the gorge. It is called the puente nuevo (new bridge) and connects the older section of the town to the newer outlying areas. The views from the city looking out over the valleys with the mountains in the background are spectacular.

Ronda is noted as being the birthplace of modern bullfighting. In the modern version, the bullfighter remains on the ground, attempting to evade the bull. In the old bullfighting, the matadors used horses.

On the Ronda web site which can be reaching by clicking here, you will find descriptions, a little history, some of my personal pictures taken last year in a visit there, and three videos from YouTube with appropriate music for the presentations. One of these is malagueña music where the singer names all the towns and cities of the region of Málaga.

I think you’ll enjoy the visit to the site. As you can see from the picture above, It is definitely one unique place to visit. Happy traveling!
